Types Of Online Degrees Available

Online business degrees are some of the most popular types of online degree programs. Business degrees can help you build a career in almost any industry, because it is so often beneficial if you have a good understanding of business principles. And of course, if you decide to go into business for yourself, a business degree can help you by increasing the likelihood that you'll be successful as a small business owner.

There are many different kinds of online business degrees, and each of them will help you get into a different industry. Here are a few of the most popular types of business degrees you can find online.

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

If you are good with numbers or are interested in the financial aspects of business, you should consider a bachelor's degree in accounting. As an accountant you will be able to keep the books for businesses, which means you will keep track of income and expenditures. You could also become a tax accountant, helping businesses to file their taxes correctly, and (if you are good at it) helping them to save money on their taxes as well.

Bachelor's Degree in Economics

Studying economics gives you a great wealth of information related to how to run a business. Since you don't run a business in a vacuum, understanding how the economy works, and how it affects your business, is very important. This degree can help you get a professional job as an economist or another type of businessperson, but it is also helpful if you plan to run your own business. This degree seems applicable today given the state of our economy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Are there any colleges that offer an Archeology degree online?
I am curious if there are any "brick and mortar" accredited colleges or universities that offer any type of Archeology degree's with online classes? I'm not wanting a fully online college but just a real college that has online classes available in this field.

    • ANSWER:
You might be able to find a mixed setting, but there is no way in hell you can get a fully online degree in Archae.

It's a very hands on field, and you definitely need to be in the same room as the professor. That being said, you might be able to do some of the core requirements, like math and history online, but science and archae. are going to have to be done in the classroom/in the field.

  2. QUESTION:
What types of engineering jobs are available to someone with a degree in mathematics?
I've read online that with a degree in mathematics you have tons of career opportunities, but although math is the core of engineering I'm unsure of exactly how someone with a general bachelors math degree would enter into the engineering field?

Would you need to have a specialized option towards engineering (which would possibly close off other career opportunities), or would the general degree be enough in itself?

    • ANSWER:
Without a MS in some field of engineering, there's virtually no chance you'll do any type of engineering work. It's true, engineering requires math as a foundation, but math does NOT teach you about (for instance in Civil Engineering) retaining wall analysis, mat foundations, wastewater treatment (chemistry), structural steel design and codes (AISC specs) concrete design (ACI) highway and pavement (AASHTO), etc ETC. I'm fairly certain its the same for mechanical and electrical.

Also, in applying for a MS it's likely that you may be forced to take certain UG courses to get you up to speed. Only certain majors are accepted for MS in engineering because the classes build upon knowledge you won't know without certain UG degrees

  3. QUESTION:
Want to purse online masters degree in health field.?
I have completed A & P I and II, Chemistry, Biology and Microbiology, and a basic nurtrition course. I have earned my B.S. in Mathematics. I would like to purse a master's degree in a health field such as a Masters program in nutrition or something like that. What type of degree's are available and what type could be completed online? And if you know, what are some colleges with reasonable tuition?

    • ANSWER:

  4. QUESTION:
Has anyone earned a photography degree online?
If you have, I would appreciate it if you would answer the following for me: 1. What online college was it? 2. How expensive was it? 3. Was financial aid available? (Grants, etc) 4. What type of degree did you earn? 5. How long did it take you to complete the degree? 6. Was it convenient/easy?

    Thanks a bunch!

    • ANSWER:
I could join the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and the Photographic Society of New York,it's cost 50.00 London Pound and US$ 30..00,you could join as Life Member there,I passed Bachelor of Arts in Photography (London) and (New York),If you have photo for exam, you need to send them to the person incharge from any of the Society, few more weeks you will receive the results,it very convenient and easy way to do it.

  5. QUESTION:
are game design degrees REALLY that bad?
I've been thinking of going into this field but based on questions I've seen on here and a couple articles online, some people say that this type of degree is frowned upon. They talk about people being hired in other countries for low wages... but what about the companies that are located in the U.S? Why exactly would this degree even be available and popular if it apparently gets people no where half the time?
I mean like the actual design of games, like animation/storyline/graphics/sounds.

    • ANSWER:
People make very bad, romantic, irrational decisions all the time about what they should study. We see this on Y!A every day — fools choosing "wedding planning", film, dancing, acting, fashion, chiropractic, etc. They're not listening to contrary advice.

Regarding Game Design: Yes, it is that bad. Few people get hired in that industry with a game design degree, and very few stick around to make a decent career. The best advice is to get a more flexible degree such as Software Engineering Technology. This provides a wider range of possible careers AND leaves the door open for Game Design on the off-chance an opportunity becomes available...

  6. QUESTION:
Is getting a Bachelors in Criminal Justice a good move toward a degree/career in Forensic Science?
I am very interested in Forensic Science and the thought of working in a crime laboratory. However, I am about to enroll in a BA for CJ and want to know if that is a good idea to do so. I've read that crime lab workers need degrees in chemistry, biology, etc, but I figured CJ would be a good starting point to get crime education under my belt. Or, is there another type of degree that I need to get instead so that I do not waste my time? If so, are these degrees available online....that helps because I am in the Air Force. Thanks !

    • ANSWER:
Get a chemistry, biology, physics or forensic science degree and just take a couple criminal justice classes or maybe minor in criminal justice. If you want to become a forensic scientist or work in a crime lab, that is the way to go.

  7. QUESTION:
Is an online veterinary technician degree a good idea?
Like so many others, I am attracted to the idea of the flexiblity and focused attmosphere an online degree promises. I have been looking at the major universities in my area and trying to see if they have any online courses that will register me as a verterinary assistant or technician in two to four years. I would like to be regionally tested, but so far I have had negative results. None of the universities I looked at have those types of courses available.
Of course I have however in my searches attracted the attention of many vocational schools, two year programs, even 16 month programs that register me for the field I've been craving and promise everything I've been looking for.
Places such as Animal Behavior College of S. california, and Stanford Brown Veterinary College. Both will also place me in a three month internship at a local vet clinic where they boast 85% of their interns get hired into the facility they studied under.

Is this reputable, or a scam. Can i really use it?

    • ANSWER:
The only reason I would be leary of an online veterinary tech degree is the lack of hands-on experience you would have. Some fields of study require hands-on brick-and-mortar type educational environments that you just don't find online. Dissecting, examing tissue under slides, drawing blood, taking temperature, intubating, anatomy, those things would be hard to learn without class experience. You will have the three month internship they talk about, but you could also just apply and get hired in a vet clinic for three months. That's just what I'm thinking. Good luck to you!

  8. QUESTION:
what type of degree do i need to teach 6th grade or under?
something that takes the least amount of time. like an associates. i want to get it online so, please let me know if its available online.

    • ANSWER:
I don't think associates degree would be sufficient to teach 6th grader. You should be holding at least bachelor's degree. Moreover you should not intend to go toward associated degree as employer don't recognize it as they used to so its always better to go for bachelor's.

  9. QUESTION:
what types of careers are available to..?
someone with a masters in applied math with a concentration in computer science?

Right now i'm still an undergraduate going for a math and computer science degree. I like CS but i'm stronger in math. I would like a degree that allows me to have many different career paths. I figured a masters in applied math w/ a focus in CS would fit this. I've searched online and i've seen things like:

Cryptographer/Cryptanalyst (this is my favorite one)
    Software engineer
    Financial Analyst
    Actuary (not feeling this)

Are there any other careers you guys could recommend? Also i'm really interested in physics but then i've only had two semesters of physics and i found it pretty easy...would a concentration in physics be more helpful since i will have a bachelors in computer science anyways?

    thanks!

      Cryptographer for the NSA

  10. QUESTION:
Healthcare Certifications available in Georgia or online?
Hey! I am a college student pursuing a nursing degree. I am currently on winter break and was looking for some kind of healthcare/medical certification I can do in tops 6 weeks either in a classroom somewhere around Atlanta or online that is accredited. I'm trying to get a job in the healthcare/medical field so I need some kind of training or certification to atleast get my foot in the doo. It can either be with patients or office/secretary type. I have been looking everywhere. Please help with any suggestions or things you know about. Thanks so much! :)

    • ANSWER:
Probably your best bet would probably be CNA, certified nursing assistant. I have provided a link for you.

Your most economical options would be your local community college, adult school or ROP program. If there is more than one program available, find out which program employers in your area prefer.

  11. QUESTION:
What good paying jobs are available working from home?
I am a teacher with a masters degree but I do not want to stay in the classroom...I would like to work from home either teaching online (but a lot of times I think a doctorate is required for that), so I would be open to any type of job where I could work from home, and still have benefits and a decent pay scale...would need to make at least ,000 a year...can anyone help point me in the right direction with this? Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
These days it is quite possible to work online from home.
You may consider next home based business resource:

  12. QUESTION:
Are there Math & Sciences Courses available for personal use?
What I mean is - Are there any courses for Math and Science (or whatever) that I can take but that isn't actually the same as enrolling in school or program or whatever

For example - I am planning to go back to college in about a year or so, I need to save the money.

But in the meantime, I would like to get ahead of the game. I have been studying math and science in my spare time through online videos and text books ect... I am actually pretty good at these subjects and a quick learner - good enough where I can teach myself subjects like calculus without much problem. The degree ill be going for is in Physics and Math

Anyways, the self-teaching is going good, but I don't have a way of knowing for sure if I am learning ALL of the aspects of each class. For example - Algebra 2 or Calculus 1, I can learn quite a bit about them, but I do not know if I learned everything from each course that would be taught in a university.

So is there any type of night class (or day class, doesnt matter) that I can sign up for and take in my area, that would be JUST teaching Calculus 1 for example (any class is fine) - I understand it would cost money, but the idea here is that it would likely be cheaper than college and it would be just the classes I am interested in brushing up on.

This way, when I do finally enroll in university, I will do well on the placement exam, and be way ahead of the game in these subjects, allowing me to double major with less difficulty in Math and Physics.

So I tried looking on Google, but I all get is people trying to sell me online degrees. I want this to be something I can physically go to - and I dont care about a degree yet (if they offer credits that would be cool but either way I dont care). I dont really knwo what to call what I am looking for - so when I type in "Math Courses" I get tons of results from schools and online tutoring ect...

So does ANYONE Know what I am talking about and can anyone help me to figure out how to find out if such courses exist - and if so, how to find them?

    • ANSWER:
find a cheap local college with rolling admissions. they usually have late admissions so you might still have time to get in for summer..

the there should be a option to 'Audit' almost any class.. it's taking a real college class, but with no grade. that is the only way to truely get a grasp on the feel.

otherwise, just go to a college website and navigate to the department and teachers, and maybe if you're lucky, their syllabus is on their personal webpage (unlocked), and not on Blackboard like most classes (locked)

  13. QUESTION:
How to cite an unpublished article in MLA style?
I'm currently working on a term paper and one of my research sources is a grad student's thesis (that he submitted in order to be considered for a master's degree). Does anyone know the specific rules on how I would put this article in my works cited? Given that this article is not part of a journal or anything, it's just available online for review. I've looked online but can't seem to find the proper format for this specific type of article, if anyone knows how to do this properly please let me know! Thanks in advance! =)

    • ANSWER:
I know for sure your going to need his first and last name and date his work was published. You should be good with those but there are possibly more information needed. So like I said his first and last name date he has on the thesis and also the title of the thesis also possibly the school he was attending when he published the thesis. Good luck. As for how to cite the information you used. If your extracting and full sentence or more of his of course you would have to use quotes and possibly his last name at the end. If its a thought or idea that is based on you reading his thesis you could possibly put his last name or the date he published his thesis at the end of the paragraph. MLA and APA may seem vastly different when your formatting and term paper yet if you use one of the suggestions or more I gave you I believe you should be ok.

  14. QUESTION:
helpp please, my typing speed is 80, good command in medicines/diseases, can i get a degree/take a test online
    hi folks,

need to know whether there are any sites available through which i get a certificate of what i have

please help, its important for my career
why treatment in USA so expensive

    why medicines are costly

what should a man with no social security coverage do? consider and answer

hehe, dont suggest suicide pls :)

    • ANSWER:
You must beware of scams that will take your money and promise you a certificate or degree online.

For someone who is so proud of your typing speed, you apparently haven't learned to use the "Check Spelling" feature on this page.

I would not hire anyone who showed me a degree or certificate that they had obtained online.

  15. QUESTION:
Photography and makeup for my future!? Do you need to go to collage?!?
There are two professions that I am REALLY interested in.

    1) A professional photographer (Photoshoots, bands, weddings, models, etc.)
    2) A makeup artist (Models, bands, photoshoots, etc.)

Basically, I'm really wanting to look at jobs for the future and for my life considering that I'm in 11th grade and really need to look at these things now. What I'm mainly wanting to know is if you need a collage degree for either job, what type of degree (if one is needed), if online courses are available instead of going to a direct collage and what is required for each job?

    • ANSWER:
You don't NEED to for either, but the credentials help you appeal more to potential clients, since they know you have the proper training. I personally wouldn't go to a makeup artist or photographer that hadn't gone to school for it unless they had a REALLY impressive portfolio or had 5+ years of credible experience, but that could be just me.

  16. QUESTION:
What type of degree would be suitable for someone who is creative and mechanically inclined?
I am creative and mechanically inclined. I have my A.A and am ready to finish my bachelors. I want a realistic degree that allows me to use both skills. I am very hands on and like to be outside. I would like to do engineering I know I cannot pass the math (over 8 hours and it took me 3 times to pass college algebra) I know my limits but I do not know what is available to me. I like to help people also. I'm looking online and campus for degrees, but still not sure, I like communication but not sure where that can get me. Any advice?

  17. QUESTION:
Colleges degrees while in the military?
I plan to serve about 4 years in the Air Force, since my parents are forcing me to enlist when I graduate high school.

I know its possible to school and work while in the military, but do you think it would be too much pressure and strain? I know I could do things online, but i'm a hands on type of person. I like to have someone available in case I have questions or need help. Most bases [I think] offer some sort of schooling, or at the nearest college during nights. If I went straight to college, i'd major in Criminlogy, Journalism, or Sociology and minor in Psychology or Dance.

So here's my plan so far.

Enlist in the Air Force. Try to get a job that deals with writing [Journalism major] or Protective Forces [Criminology/Sociology/Psychology major]. As soon as I get settled in, begin classes either on base or at the nearest college, free of charge thanks to the military. By the time I get out in 4 or 5 years, id have my bachelors and could go on to work on my Masters, also fully paid for.

    Is this a good plan?
REPLY TO THE FIRST RESPONE: Yeah. My mom mainly, my dad just goes with whatever shes says. She's basically in it for the money. She thinks theyll pay for my life of schooling and etc. I'll be makng money, and getting a degree, so im kind of like "whatever" now. But im DEFINITELY not staying in longer than 8 years.

REPLY TO THE SECOND RESPONSE: I didnt think about the training and stuff i'll have to do, but I dont have much of a life so I think I can get it in 4 or 5 years. Im on a mission to!

    • ANSWER:
Your parents are making you enlist???? WTH?

I like your plan, I don't like the idea that you are being forced into it.

  19. QUESTION:
What is the best online course for a masters degree in Public Policy or Public Administration?
I live in West Los Angeles and most of the schools that offer a master's course in Public Administration or Public Policy are only available through sit-in courses. My work schedule is extremely erratic and I have a side business as well so I am very doubtful I would be able to meet all of the necessary attendance requirements.

I did see that Cal State Dominguez Hills offers a 100% online course and I know the usual University of Phoenix spiel, but I was wondering if anyone knew of other reputable, well-known schools that offer this type of program. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
There are tons of online programs. I personally attended American Intercontinental Univ. and Capella University, and teach for the University of Phoenix. All three are accredited and solid programs.

The key is to make sure the college/university is accredited. I have three basic recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring; after all, you have to defend your assets.

      1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting body’s website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information on the college.

      2. You must have extreme self motivation and be able to teach yourself per say. This means that you will not have someone telling you verbally, so it is up to you to get the information from the course room, text, and other resources. The best way to look at it is like a guided independent study course.

      3. Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let it be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

  20. QUESTION:
For all you english people did i do this right? is everything right in this paragraph?
Community colleges are quickly becoming the most economical way to attain higher education (1). Probably the most appealing aspect is the cost of tuition, which tends to be more economical than private and public four-year institutions (2). In addition, there are many associate degrees available that are carefully streamlined to assure quick training (3). Students who want or need to stay at home can schedule day or evening classes as well as online or onsite classes (4). Because there are no college dormitories, housing costs are nonexistent (5). Local communities benefit because the community college primarily trains employees for work in the immediate area (6). When the economy is doing good, the community college has good enrollment in the evening classes because the students are currently working (7). If the economy is doing poor, workers often return to day classes to get retrained in another field (8). Financial aid is no worse at the community college level (9). In fact, most students are able to qualify for some type of grant, scholarship, or financial aid making the community college experience a worthwhile investment in one's future (10).

    • ANSWER:
Good job. I would only suggest the following changes.

      *********************************

      Sentence (7):

      When the economy is good....
      OR
When the economy is doing well....

      Sentence (8):

If the economy is bad.... /If the economy is poor...
      OR
If the economy is doing poorly...

      ****************************

In both instances above, I think the first sentence is the better choice.

  21. QUESTION:
finding a job at a hosital?
im 19 years old, a college student
i go to a community college (Cosumnes River College)
i would love to work at kaiser permanente hospital, but i don't know what types of jobs are available with my skills. ill take any job position

i seen some of their internships online, but its a master internship, and i don't have any degrees, yet

what jobs are offered at kaiser, for college students

    • ANSWER:
Try their website. If you have little to no experience/eduaction in Healthcare, you will have to take an entry level position. Clerical work in the Business Office, Medical Records, Admitting is a good place to start.

  22. QUESTION:
Are these valid job searching web sites?
I found two different web sites they say they help you look for new jobs. They send you emails a few times a week with a long list of available jobs. When I go in to get more info, I always have to go through the online degree info pages and I can never see the names of the companies or any type of possible salary info. They just want you to fill out some pages with all your info and someone will contact you.

The web sites I have are www.job.com and another is www.phoenixjobs.com. I only question this because both these web sites really push the online college stuff and they make is seem there are great jobs everywhere but will give you no info on them.

It is tough enough trying to find a decent job and now we need to be concerned if the jobs are real or not. Does anyone have any experience with either of these job sites? Thanks any info is appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
I don't know those specific sites but I do know there are a lot of job sites that posts things that seem too good to be true. Which means they are. Sorry nobody will pay 45K for someone to be a receptionist with no experience. I would suggest stick to the job sites you know. If you feel uncomfortable on a particular site then I wouldn't use it.

As for the person commenting about looking at web sites is not the way to go, I noticed your job title, again someone else trying to benefit themselves. I am sure people are more than capable of looking for a job. People just assume a lot about you from one posting. And you didn't say this was you only searching method. Your question was about these two web sites and nobody even answered the question. Good luck to you, I hope you find something soon.

  23. QUESTION:
Library Science and Higher Ed Administration- anyone who has mixed the two?
I'm actually interested in two options for grad school: Library Science and College Student Services Administration (also known as Higher Education Administration). I'm a volunteer with my local city library and I really enjoy it but I'm also a mentor for kids applying to college and I really love academic advising. My goal is to be an Academic Librarian or an Academic Advisor- I wouldn't mind doing both part time if possible but I realize those positions are usually full time. I know that most Academic Librarians have a Masters in a subject area (Biology, Sociology, English, Mathematics, etc.) but has anyone on here ever had a Higher Ed Administration type of degree and an MLS or know of someone who did that? The Higher Ed degree would still prepare me to work with college students, even if I didn't specialize in a subject area and just became a Reference Librarian for a college. And if a good academic advising position were available, I'd consider doing that too. I'm just up in the air and wondering if I could do both?

By the way, the MLS programs I'm looking at are all online (I'm not able to move from my current location due to family obligations), and I would stagger start dates for both programs so that there are only a couple years at most where I'm working on both.

Thanks in advance for any insight!
Thank you for your insight, Lili. I began looking at the CSSA (that's what my university calls it) program when I wanted to be an academic advisor. I don't harbor any great desire to be a dean or president; I like working with the students more than I like the administration part. The only reason I'm considering the degree, is because most of the postings I've found for academic advisors prefer candidates to have Masters degrees in student services, higher ed administration, etc. I like that I would get to work firsthand with students for this degree, that's the primary reason I prefer it over a second purely academic pursuit. I would choose to master in English if that were the case, which might be a better choice if I'm able to get a GTA position so that I have face-to-face contact with students. I'm still not sure...

    • ANSWER:
My husband holds two Master's degrees -- one in Library and Information Science and another in a specific academic field of specialization. Until he recently changed careers, he was the director of a couple of specialized libraries at major universities.

He is not enthusiastic about anything called a "Higher Ed Administration" degree, nor am I, because at the universities with which he and I have been associated (I hold a PhD), the important administrators almost all have had PhD's in specific academic fields. If they have held master's degrees only, they have also been in specific academic fields.

Frankly, I am not sure what the hell a "Higher Ed Administration" degree really means. It certainly hasn't meant much at the schools at which we have worked. If you take a look at the presidents and provosts and deans at major universities, you'll see that they do not hold such degrees.

  24. QUESTION:
Need answers about College life and what to expect.
I've been out of high school for a number of years now, and I'm trying to go back. I got a decent job that I do well at, and I got married, had a kid, and got a mortgage. Now I'm tired of paycheck to paycheck in a job I'm not sure I'll stay at forever. I am wanting to attend Tennessee State University for a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. They have a minority scholarship for Caucasian people. I think the only requirement I don't meed is a 2.5 gpa in high school. Life wasn't serious back then, and I had to go through a lot so I am just happy I'm here today. So here's my questions.

    1. If I attain scholarships and grants, how long do they last, and do I get penalized or blacklisted if I don't get to use them before they expire?

    2. Where do I go to take care of prerequisites, and do these grants or scholarships cover said prerequisites?

    3. I work 50 hours/week, how many hours and days does a full time student attend classes? They don't have the Engineering degree for nights :( .

    4. How many hours and days per week does a part time student attend classes?

    5. Do said scholarships still apply for part time students?

    6. Does anyone know how much this minority scholarship will cover?

    7. Can some needed courses in math and science be taken online? (this doesn't include prereqs)

    8. Is there someone I could talk to at TSU that can help me get an entire 4 year plan made up so I know exactly what to expect.

    9. Do scholarships and grants cover book costs? If not I will most likely get a tablet pc or e-book type thing. Are the books available for download? (Not talking about illegal free stuff)

I know this was a HUGE post, and I thank anyone who has even paid attention to it. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to those of you who reply. Thank you!
    ||||||||||EDIT||||||||||
In response to your post, I have to ask about prereqs again. In high school I did a lot of goofing, and had no parents to reign me in. I'm sure I just took basic math's maybe algebra or pre algebra, and just basic classes. Teachers always wanted to move me up to advanced classes, but I was hardheaded. I have no secondary language (currently studying one on my own), and my high school transcript is probably going to look like something that dropped out of a cows' ***. You are saying that any "prereqs" i'll need to take is going to be part of my college course list?

    • ANSWER:
      1. Scholorships are usually for every year, but some may be onetime deals, need to find out. Scholorships given by a school usually require you maintain a minimum GPA. Individual scholorships expiration or lack there of is just that, individual. I have never heard of "blacklisting" or anything like that. You never need to repay scholorships even if you fail, you just dont get renewed.

      2. If your going for an undergraduate degree, then you shouldn't have to take any pre-reqs, those are part of the degree. You take those classes at the university. This is assuming you have no college experience yet. If you have some General Education credits, those can count towards your degree, however every school has a minimun number of credits you must obtain from that school in order to receive a degree.

      3. That would be very tough, usually a semester is 15 credits, and 15 hours of class time. 1 credit is supposed to equal 1 hour of class. So a 3 credit class should be 3 credits per week. Where this doesn't hold true is labs. Many times labs are 1 or 2 credits, however can be from 3-5 hours. Engineering you will have physics labs i would say about 20hr/week for classes. Problem is with school schedules you will have like MWF classes and T TH classes, so unless work is very lenient with you coming and going you have to block off say 8a-1p MWF and 11a-3p T TH (just an example check the schools schedule of classes for exact times)

      4. Part time is anything under 12 credits, usually schools do not offer scholoships to part timers, howveer private scholorships may be available.

      5. See 4.

      6. Check the school or scholorships website.

      7. You can find just about any class online, however getting one that you can take and your school will count as that class is different. A lot of schools won't take classes from online that are supposed to be core major requirements, being an engineering major math is part of your requirements, they want that done there. However english, psych, etc. those can usually be done from another online school. ALWAYS check with the university you want the degree from to see what those courses will or wont transfer as. Don't want to do some classes for nothing.

      8. An advisor. Like a high school guidance counselor but for college.

      9. Usually they should cover all school expenses. Just not usually living expenses.

      Good luck!

  25. QUESTION:
Unemployed and can't find work. What should I do?
I am so frustrated. I have been unemployed for over 4 months now, ever since I moved to the Providence RI area (ranked #1 worst job market in the country). I moved here with my husband's military career and though I have a bachelor's degree and 5+ years experience in graphic design, I have not been able to get a job. I am online every day on the various job sites hunting for and applying for things. I have reworked my resume, cover letter and references. I have "snail" mailed applications, and applying to things outside of my field.
I am frustrated because I have run out of money and can't pay my bills, the jobs that are available here ar part time clerical or medical or retail types. Part time would be some money, yes, but I still won't be able to cover all my bills with it. I cannot type- I have tried learning and I still can only type 16 WPM max.

I am frustrated that people think just because I am a military wife, I should be happy to take any old job and like it, too. I have worked retail before and developed severe back pain as a result fo my heavy breasts. Military insurance will NOT pay for a breast reduction so am I just supposed to suffer with the pain and go work at Sears? Then when a permanent injury occurs (as it did with my dad) THEN what am I going to do?

People tell me to just start a business doing freelance design, and I have tried, posting and posting and posting on craigslist, joining networking sites, building a site for my businesses but nothing is bringing in any money. I had another website to sell toiletries and such but in this economy I guess people aren't buying "luxury items" like that, so I have had to stop doing it as I can't afford to process the cc payments or advertise anymore. I'd like to go back to school but, again, no money, and I have missed the financial aid deadline for this year. Even if they'd pay my way through school i still would have no way to pay my bills.

I have tried temp agencies, they all say they will call me when something comes in and I never hear anything else. I have tried telecommuting and work from home things and it's usually some job where they want you to do MLM, door to door or try to sell some crap to people they do not want, or they promise you this huge "salary" or say "unlimited salary" when you pay like to join and just talk to everyone you see about the program (the only ones getting rich are the originators).

I need some real help. I know we can't always get what we want but am I totally wrong for not wanting to take a menial job after I have spent years and thousands of dollars learning and then honing my craft? I actually wanted to cry when I went into a local retail store the other day for an application. I just feel trapped.
Please no links to check out "opportunities" thanks!
I took a typing test at a employment agency. For data entry, I scored 16 WPM alphabetical, 12 WPM numerical. I just have trouble taking what I see and copying it by typing. I can type very rapidly from omy own thoughts.

    • ANSWER:
"Military insurance will NOT pay for a breast reduction"

Odd, I know a few who have had military insurance and had covered for a reduction from them.

As for employment, have you tried like Burger King or Target or similar position?

IMO if you are not employed you should take whatever position is open and that wants to hire you. You are making [FAQ-ANSWER].00 now. If you were employed you'd be making more than [FAQ-ANSWER].00. Its great that you have a good background education wise, but you canNOT be picky if you are unemployed!

If I ever became unemployed, I'd do my damndest to get ANY position I could, to assist with the bills and other things that need income, until I get the position I want.

  26. QUESTION:
What minor(s) are good with Art if I'm interested in observing details, cultural differences, and beauty?
I always had a strong interest in Art to drawing an attractive image such as a person (famous or not),object and nature. I also enjoy drawing from an idea for object(jewelry or apparel). I do have confidence in my skill(talent). This is why I chose to major in Art. I have gotten a diverse training majoring in Art. I have had Drawing, painting, basic computer images and basic sculpture/wire skills. I have learned all these different (variety) of mediums to create art! I enjoyed it! I like to use the computer to type, scan(copy) a photo. I'm very uncertain as to what I want to do as a career in it! I'm not sure if I want to teach or sell a piece of work. I would like to open a website of a gallery of my artwork. What is the safest way to do it? My biggest concern is I have read recent comments on the BA in Art and what you can do with that degree. I read that the only available position is teaching K-12. I'm one who may not want to teach it in school. I was also consider to look into to Graphic Design at a Visual Art School of New York in Savannah, Georgia. I have been doing research on this area! I'm not quite sure if it hits the spot for me! I have been in college majoring in Studio Art (drawing and painting). I was currently at junior status in the major at the college in '07! If I decide to major in Graphic Design how many more years do I have to finish? My other interest is cultural difference in people (person) , objects and how they interact. I also like to express my ideas and thoughts in writting about these things. I'm real undecided about a minor! If I double minor how long do I have in school? I have been pretty anixous, and uneazy( a little disturbed) about what I have read about a graduate with a(BA) in studio art with a minor and could not find a job! I also read on a website that with a
BA in Art a lone you can not get a job. I also enjoy drawing as a hobby. I only hold an AA degree from a community college along with some more educational training in art while in school! I NEVER have sole or submitted any of my work to a gallery. I only have been practicing in my sketchbook drawing pad and saving it to build a portfolio for it. I would like to DO a gallery of my previous artwork Online. But first I would like to know if there is anyone who knows what kind of minor(s) I can look into that may be good for my second interest that I can fall back on. It can be a list and some good suggestion on what I can do to set up a Art gallery online!
Please READ my details throughtly! I NEED some good suggestions about what would be some good COLLEGE MINORS along with a ART MAJOR that I can look into or GIVE A LISTING of some good subjects that would be GOOD for my second interest that I have mention in my page long details! I would really appreciate it! The first two answers were NOT enough only one of them responded to a portion of it! Please Offer some good suggestion on what I can look into this IMPORTANT to me! The encouragement and knowledge from someone woud be great! Thank you.
If anyone can just give me some encouraging advice on what areas or subjects I can look into this would be nice. I only got one answer and it is NOT enough! Please response if you don't mind. I appreciate it. Thanks.

  27. QUESTION:
Need help on when will my brother be released form jail?
The judge sentenced him to a 8 to 5... but its his first offense. I'm not sure when he will see the parole board or if he will even be aloud to. I read online that he can be release on parole after 2/3 of his sentence. But I also seen that Sentences of 12 months or more imposed for offenses committed on or after 4 April 2005 are subject to conditional release at the half way point of the sentence and will be on licence to the end of the sentence. They are not `at risk' on these sentences. Is it possible that he may be able to come home next year on parole????

Anyone's answer will help... I am desperate to help him and to also give some form of comfort to his 5 yr old boy.

There is no chance your brother will be home next year. When he gets out will be up to him, and the way he acts. He is eligible for a parole hearing in February of 2014.

Comfort his son by telling him that Daddy needs to get some help, and he is where he needs to be to get that help.

  28. QUESTION:
How can a Studio Art major become more Employable?
I had asked a question like this recently and the answer I received was not good enough for me. I'm looking for an answer from someone in this catergory that knows about what a Studio Art major could look into for more Employment Potential? I wanted to know since I enjoy drawing images such as a person (face),objects or something of nature and I have an interest for cultural issues that deal with people and things? What kind of jobs are available that would have decent paying benefits in this area? I'm also one who has majored in Studio Art but I left school for personal reasons. I was very undecided as to what to minor in! I only hold an AA degree with a strong Studio Art trainning. I am currently looking and checking for jobs that may relate to Art or that would have something creative to do in it. I do NOT plan to sell any paintings, but I do plan to submitt some samples of some of my artwork into a Fine Art website to be viewed and have my own Art gallery Online? How can I do it? This is so I can try it or have some idea how it works. I also what to know is it Possible to sell Print-Outs of the work online? I needed some help and suggestions from someone who may be an artist themselves or one who is a professional to tell me what I could look into. I'm not sure about school right now. What can I do now with what I have been trained in school to do? I read and got some "Mixed Reviews" about Studio Art that were a bit disturbing and concerned me. The answers I received said that it would be hard to find a job! If I become a freelancer it would be extremely hard to bring money in! So what would make it easy to go that route? It may be something I would do on the side or ( a second)job. I asked question about What can one do with a Studio Art major besides Teach?" I'm one who is NOT sure if I would want to teach it but I would like to use it in some way along with my interest with cultural issues and giving at advice. I like the computer but not so much that I have to work with icons so much! I like to use the computer to scan artwork or photo. I also like to do research or search information on a particular subject. I also like to analyze and type. If anyone knows about what could be good job to look into please let me know. I need someone like a artist(Graphic Artist)Designer or career counselor to give me some ideas! Thanks!
I would like to add that I only hold a AA degree. I do NOT have the degree in Studio Art. I'm sorry that I did NOT mention that part! I just wanted to know if there are ANY jobs out there that may be Art related that I can look into now. Since I only have a AA degree. I do NOT know of any Graphic studios in my town. Please note that I am not in school and I am NOT a graduate! I just want to know what kind of jobs I could look into with a AA degree that has benefits! Please NO Rude answers. Thank you.
Last but not least, I would like to respond to my first answer about doing research; I have done some research on these careers. I understand and appreciate your ideas and what you are trying to say. I was just wanted know there are any jobs related to art for someone who may NOT have a degree in Art that have good benefits?
I like to response to your answer one more time. I must apologize again about the Associate in Arts. I do NOT mean a two year degree in Art. I meant it is a Associate of Arts degree. It a regular two college degree to transfer to a four year school. It just a degree for completing my general education. I was just wandering if it was still possible with that I could end up with a job related to Art with that kind of degree. Thank for your apology and advice. I appreciate it!

    • ANSWER:
You may work in a gallery or a museum; there is the teaching field, like you've mentioned. Even as a studio major, you have a whole world of creative fields open to you. Just about every company needs advertisers, creative executives, designers, etc. Even more so in fields like gaming and books. Illustration is another career to consider but I wouldn't recommend children's book illustrations as it's VERY competitive. Personally, I'm considering a career in comics.

As a recommendation, I would encourage you to spend some time in the graphics's studio as it will help you if a company requires you to use digital work. There's nothing wrong with being a studio art graduate looking for mainstream corporate work because having that classical training is so important.
Honey, I can't hand you a career on a platter and say "here you go, this is what you're going to be doing for the rest of your life". YOU need to sit down and think about it. YOU need to sit and do the research. All we can do is hand you a plate of ideas and hope that motivates you enough to do your own legwork.

      *Add:
So you have an Associates in Art? That should still open the same doors and the benefit in looking for a job in the artistic field is that it's more skilled based. If you have a good portfolio, strong job recommendations, and seem eager to learn, that will do a lot more for you than holding a higher degree ever could. And if you wanted, you could teach yourself graphic design. I'm sorry I misunderstood earlier.

  29. QUESTION:
Should I major in "Secondary Education" or "Art" to Become an Art Teacher?
I really want to be an Art teacher. I'm going to be a freshman this fall at Sam Houston. When i looked online at the college web site it said i would get a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Art Studio and a Minor in Secondary Education.

My parents are really skeptical of getting a degree in Art. They want me to Major in Secondary Education and Minor in Art.

My 12 year older sister has gotten her PHD in History and is basically
screwed without a job. It is because of the type of History she majored in. She now wishes she would have done something else so she can get a job. So now my parents are all on "Will you be realistically getting a job with what you Major in?"

Here are some question my parents keep pounding on:
--Would it provide realistic job opportunities if I majored in Art and Minored in Education?
--If I do Major in art and minor in education could i still get a normal elementary position if no Art positions are available?

I really don't know any information about being a teacher in general so please any comments are greatly appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
I think if you have a talent forget the art and get more real knowledge it will make you more credible. Your sister sounds smart, it probably runs in the family.

    • ANSWER:
My advice would be to get the MLS and then get into an academic library. Then, while you are working at the academic library, you could go for a teaching degree at the school where you are working and become a faculty member (the library may even have information literacy classes for you to teach). As a member of the faculty, you can be an adviser to students.
