College Students Money Saving Tips

You can get so caught up in college life that you may overlook the need to plan out your finances. Being too busy with studying, sports and socializing leaves you no time to figure out your money issues.

These tips will help you save money at college:

1. Give yourself a plan to follow.

Make your plan before you get to the college campus.

Are you eligible for grants of scholarships? Get free money before taking out any loans.

Put your cash flow in a spread sheet. List all the sources of income you might have such as a part-time job, stipends or money from parents of grants.

Then forecast your expected monthly or weekly expenses for food, books, etc. Once you have set aside a budget, be strict with yourself and stick to it.

You will never know what unexpected expenses would come your way so it is better to have a downfall for financial emergencies.

2. Pick high quality low cost food.

One of the major expenses that you have as a student which you might have ignored when you were still living with your parents is your food allowance. Avoid eating at fast food outlets, as this is most likely to ruin your budget. Pack your lunch and plan your meals as much as you can.

3. Find out all the student discounts and use them.

Whip out your student ID. You\'d be surprised how many businesses offer discounts to students.

Visit your favorite business often ( the one with the punch card). You\'ll get a freebie every so often for being their loyal customer.

4. Use your cash as much as you can.

Using your budget, you\'ll know when and where you need to spend your money. Don\'t use a credit or debit card when cash will work. Those cards tend to make you overspend, using money you don\'t have.

5. Keep yourself busy.

Join a club or group in a subject that interests you.

If you stay busy your mind won\'t wander or be tempted to spend cash to alleviate boredom.

If you stick to your plan you will be able to save your money and have enough in reserve in case an emergency arises.
