    Herbalist online certificate or degree?
I would love to learn things such as Eastern herbs, Western herbs, botany, holistic medicines, homeopathy, etc. I talked to a guy in town who specializes in all of the following, but after talking to him and asking how do I learn, he told me that he went to a place called Clayton School of Holistic Health. I looked the place up and seemed to be a real good place to study, however, I also found a review online that said that the place was not only a joke, but was not properly accredited and was also far too high for the amount of info they give you.

And with that being the guys only means of knowledge, I am a hell of alot more skeptical of going back to the guy in the future. I looked around where I live and even at the community colleges around me, and there is nothing for any of the following. Well there is botany, but the only way to take it is through an associates degree and my job doesnt allow me any other way of learning except for distance learning.

Any help from anyone who has studied this, or is a practioner, any advice I would appreciate. Please nothing on how I cant teach myself by going online, I can teach myself, and I also know that it wont get me in the door as an expert at any places, but I know I’ll atleast learn the basics.

Any help would be very appreciated, any online schools, books, dvds, websites, anything where I can learn alot. Also, if I dont go through a school, is there a way to get a license or a certification, kind of like how you can take a test to become a licensed pharmacy tech. Thanks.

Which univeristies accept transfers from DETC-accredited online engineering associate degrees(i.e.Penn Foster)
I am specifically interested in which accredited universities would accept a transfer of the credits from the mechanical engineering assocites degree obtained from Penn Foster (online DETC-accredited school). It is my understanding that regionally accredited schools do not accept DETC credits unless they are possibly ACE reviewed (some Penn FOster courses are ACE but I do not know about the engineering ones) and this does not guarantee that colleges will accept it even so. Interested specifically in Univ of Maryland, and northern NJ (near NY) colleges (for obtaining Bachelor’s in Engineering by transferring Penn FOster credits from Assoc. degree). This may be helpful but I dont know if hte Guide is as specific as what I want to know:

Maybe someone has already done this and knows personally?
    Thanks a lot for info.

The key is to make sure the college/university is accredited. I have three basic recommendations for everyone looking into online/distance education. They all have to do with exploring; after all, you have to defend your assets.

    1. Make certain that you have triple checked their accreditation. First, they tell you what it is, then you go to that accrediting body’s website (not through the link provided by the school), and thirdly you would visit the department of education to see what they have to say. Do your diligent research into the institutions once you have narrowed down to a couple. You can look at the Better Business Bureau for more information on the college.

    2. You must have extreme self motivation and be able to teach yourself per say. This means that you will not have someone telling you verbally, so it is up to you to get the information from the course room, text, and other resources. The best way to look at it is like a guided independent study course.

    3. Review your goals, personal and professional. Make sure that the school that you are going to offers the programs that match your goals. Do not settle. There are many programs that are similar, but you have to make the ultimate decision. Do not let it be based on finances and length of program, but the fact that when you are finished or near finished you will be able to assume your proper place in the career field sought.

You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!

You are very insightful; real natural health care professionals laugh at a Clayton mail order herb degree; you need on sight training at a respectable school. You can go to the herbalistguild.org to see what herb programs are preferred; the Rocky Mtn school is supposed to be good. For a real career move, you will need to go to Naturapathic college like Bastyr in Washington or to an acupuncture college that is accredited; these two professions are the only two in the states that you can get licensed in for herbalism.

Several colleges and Universities acceprt ACE credits. All of Penn Foster’s engineering programs are ACE accredited. There is a small list of colleges at http://www.nationalponsi.org/college_profiles_all.htm Many of which do accept ACE credits. Just like anyother 2-year school in America, not all all of your credits will transfer. I hope this Helps. I’m a penn foster student. I investigated this subject thoroughly before enrolling.

Any recommendations for an Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene by means of online courses?
I have never been to college before and I graduated High School in 2002 with decent grades. I’ve seen several schools online that offer an Associate’s in Dental Hygiene, but I’m finding mixed reviews on most. I tried our Community College here, but I wouldn’t recommend it to ANYONE. They were the least helpful people I’ve ever met in my life. I want to do online courses for this, and I was told to stay away from schools that don’t have a “physical prescense”, or schools like University of Phoenix Online. Wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a particular school(s) that have a good online program for Dental Hygiene.

What makes an online degree different from a brick and mortart college degree so different?
I have taken so many courses from online. Actually completed my associates degree completely online. I have been researching and reading upon so many bad reviews on universities that offer degrees online and just don’t understand what makes it so different to learing online than in a traditional school room?

I think online courses are more challenging. And I speak from experience. They make you learn the same subject, just a bit different. The assignments online are just sent through email attachments, sometimes done as groups and have to be posted in the school’s Message area where they can be reviewed and criticized by professors and students.

The student group conversations for topics assigned are done at your time within a time limit and that’s the only difference, which I think it’s very convenient for working adults to accomplish the dream they left pending for specific reasons.

I hope someday online degrees will get the same respect.

It has little to do with the fact the degree is online. Several brick and mortar colleges offer online classes too. It is the scam ‘colleges’ like UoP or Devry that give online classes a bad reputation. These places do not offer real classes. You cannot squeeze the time requirements as much as these places do and you cannot scam people out of money as much as these people do. Their ‘degrees’ are not worth the paper they are printed on.

I don’t think there are any. i’m applying to dental hygiene program this year and it’s hhard to believe that there are actually any online courses for this. During the two years of this program you are practicing on patients so when you go to a field you know what you’re ding. you can’t learn that online, I don’t think you would find any job by obtaining the degree online.
