      Persuasive Essay?
I have to write a persuasive essay and I’m thinking to do it either on flying airplanes or watching a Broadway, esp. phantom of the opera.
I’m not asking you guys to do my homework for me, but I am asking for some tips or some general topics.
Plus I am looking for some websites to help me out on why to fly airplanes/watch a broadway.

      Persuasive essay?
I’m really bored in my Lit and Comp class – we’re doing a really generic persuasive essay, on anything we want. I’m kind of tired of all the gay marriage, abortion and marijuana essays, and so I thought I’d try to make it more interesting.

I want to try to support something I don’t agree with, and that many people don’t agree with for that matter. I think it would be a way to make this assignment relatively interesting.

Ridiculous / out there ideas are welcome. I, as well as my teacher, have a sense of humor.

Well, if you were to do it on airplanes, you should probably explain why it is better to fly then to drive, take a bus, etc., why it is the best way to travel. For broadway, explain why it is a great experience if someone were interested and wanted to learn more about the Arts. But make sure to explore the opposite point of view. It helps to persuade people.

Edit: Thank you, and good luck with your essay – hope you get a good grade. ;)

In regards to both those subjects, people don’t seem to know much of ANYTHING. Lots don’t even know the difference between vegetarian and vegan!

My personal opinion would be to focus on the benefits of a vegetarian diet globally. Look at how it affects the animals to eat them, as well as your body and the world. This will interest not only people with a great love for animals, but those of the health conscious, and the environmentally conscious. Not a lot of people even consider how raising animals for slaughter affects your body, let alone our natural resources!

You’d be persuading people that anyone and everyone would benefit.
And guess who would be on your side? EINSTEIN! Nobody will argue with Einstein ;D
“Nothing will benefit health or increase chances of survival on earth as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.”

The first link contains some basic environmental and health facts to get you started, if you so chose.

Utilitarian bioethics would be a good one.
Gives me the creeps but has enough merit (yes, of the creepy sort) to be a very good point to argue.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarian_bioethics

Basically it takes medical triage to a whole new level- essentially says let the more hopeless cases and people who don’t contribute to society (terminally ill, old people, people in comas, mentally disabled) do without, so medical professions can help a more “worthy” person (eek) instead. It kind of puts a value on human lives… with the perspective that some lives are more valuable than others.

It has some points, but is also cold so most people probably wouldn’t like it (if they’d heard of it).

An excellent topic for debate though.

Make sure that your paragraph has a “hook” that will “lure” the audience into reading more. You can start it off with a question like “Have you ever wondered…….” or “Did you ever…….”. You know, something interesting that will make the reader want to know what your question is or what you want them to know. Use some persuasive terms as your “bait” to have readers hungry for more.
