Schedule time in your day for some exercise. Studying and juggling the demands of kids and spouse are tough, tough jobs. Exercise allows you to unwind and destress from the demands of being bent over a book all day. You don't have to spend hours in the gym to get the benefits of exercise; even a 20-or 30-minute walk will do you a world of good. If your kids are young, put them in the stroller and let them get some fresh air while you enjoy your walk. If you'd prefer to walk alone, get up early before the rest of the household is up and get your walk in. Of course, it goes without saying that you should never leave young children unattended, so take your walk before your spouse leaves for work. If you're a single mom, maybe you could exchange babysitting with a trusted neighbor while each of you takes time to get a walk in.
Don't let nasty weather keep you from your exercise routine. There are many good exercise DVDs on the market that make use of some simple, inexpensive equipment such as hand weights and exercise bands. Even if you don't have these items handy, you can improvise weights with cans of food, or bottles filled with water. Your imagination is the limit.
Another way to get in some exercise and gain a course credit or two is to check out the offerings of your college's phyisical education department. You can take a wide variety of courses in everything from weight lifting to aerobics to team sports. These courses will all go towards your elective credits, so why not check them out?
If you're lucky enough to attend a college with a fitness center, you may be able to use the facility for free or for low-cost. Inquire when you enroll if this option is available to you.
You'll feel better, happier and less stressed if you make your exercise time a priority. You'll be a better parent and student for it.
