Why You Need to Take an English Course

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Chris Jenkinson" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'chris-jenkinson/117032">Chris Jenkinson

For anyone who was raised speaking a different language, taking an English course can be a real boon, not only for employment opportunities, but educational requirements, as well.

There are many facilities in the UK that offer English as a second language courses but not all offer equal benefits for your money. Take a look at some of these tips and pointers to find an English course that will be appropriate for you and your needs.

Who Needs to Learn English?

Let’s face it. In today’s world, the ability to fluently speak English and understand it is almost a necessity, no matter your goals or ambitions. But for some people, it is an absolute requirement.

If you are interested in furthering your education by attending a university in the UK, you must be able to pass the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score. Most institutions of higher education also require that in addition to this minimum mark you further your English skills through advanced instruction in a university foundation course.

Anyone who is interested in employment opportunities overseas will also need to know English and demonstrate a good command of the language. Whether you wish to apply for a job in the United States, in the European Union, or simply as an outsourced call agent from an English-speaking country, then extensive knowledge of the language will be necessary.

What to Expect From a English as a Foreign Language Course

The type of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) course that is most appropriate for you depends largely on your current skill level and ability to demonstrate a good command of the language. While some universities and employers offer their own private examinations to test this skill, others will require a passing score from one of the official examinations noted above (IELTS or TOEFL).

Some classes teaching English will be of minimal duration while others delve more extensively into the intricacies of the language. You may feel more comfortable taking an introductory class prior to the actual EFL course. Of course, your own needs will determine which is more appropriate for you. Many universities offer a summer class which can be completed before admittance into regular fall semester courses.

No matter the length and duration of the English course you decide upon, all of them should teach the basics, at a minimum. This includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Advanced courses will cover additional skills related to such subjects as writing college papers, speaking in public, etc.

The cost of the course alone is not a good indicator of its effectiveness and value. There are many facilities that advertise cheap EFL classes, but often their instructors are not properly licensed and the facility itself is not properly accredited. These are things to beware of when selecting the proper educational institution for you.

Anyone who wishes to get ahead in the world will want to ensure they are properly prepared for the possibilities by taking an English course. A full command of the language is imperative to take advantage of many of the opportunities outside of your home country. Don’t be left behind. Find an accredited EFL school and further your learning today.

Human Resources MBA Combines Knowledge and the Traits of Leadership

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Roger Pointing" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'roger-pointing/217997">Roger Pointing

The modern, advanced job market needs professionals with a focused attitude and approach towards a particular field such as a Human Resources MBA or a tourism degree. Therefore, shaping your career with a specialized field of study has become extremely important and the need of qualified MBA professionals has risen like never before. The MBA program is designed with focused knowledge, information, and guidelines such that the learners can gain a sound grip over a particular field. Known as a specialization, Human Resources MBA is a vast and in-depth area that combines the fundamentals of MBA like planning, organizing and implementing plus the core HR issues like labor relations, employee welfare, performance appraisal etc.

HR or Human Resources is the heart of any organization. Employees of the organization are the prime concern of HR. The Human Resources department has to look after all the issues relating to the workforce of the company. Issues like employee benefits, recruitment, job evaluation, handling employee grievances, and making room for change in the process of HRM and that is what a qualified Human Resources MBA has to do in his workplace.

The HR managers of modern corporations are often faced with challenges that are born from the latest developments in technology and the ups & downs in economy. To be able to deal with these challenges in a smart and sensible way, one needs to possess the knowledge, skills, and confidence that can only come from the credentials of a Human Resources MBA.

The curriculum of Human Resources MBA throws light on: planning, creating and developing an all-embracing vision of leadership, different approaches towards human resources, forming, evaluating and implementing strategies, labor relations in the country as well as international level, group dynamics, employee motivation, employee welfare, training and development, compensation management, managing productivity, performance evaluation, and conflict resolving.

Human Resources MBA students receive the theory-based knowledge on all the aforesaid issues plus hands-on experience at the HR department of an organization. The latter can add as important credentials to their resume. The program also addresses the economical, legal and political issues that influence the employee base of an organization in some way or the other.

Job prospects for the Human Resources MBA graduates can be in the positions like HR representative, Benefits Administrator, HR Coordinator etc. These days the need for qualified and skilled HR professionals with sound interpersonal skills and people management skills is in full flowering.

Since they have to interact with and work in coherence with people from different backgrounds, cultures, idealisms, and beliefs, Human Resources MBA professionals need to have very strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

A totally different career option and also quite an exciting one, is tourism. A Tourism Degree enables one to fulfill his long-nurtured dreams of exploring a new world. Alongside other, top-end management courses, tourism has created a stir among students and is quite a sought after one.

How to Choose a Medical Transcription School

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Melinda Decker" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'melinda-decker/59584">Melinda Decker

How to Choose a Medical Transcription Course of Study

After considering all the pros and cons of becoming a medical transcriptionist, perhaps the most important decision lying before you is that of choosing your course of study. The decision to pursue training in medical transcription represents a large investment of time and money. But the end result, as with any educational pursuit, is that you are investing in yourself.

A two-year course is the norm, and the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) also recommends that this include a 240 hour externship in an actual healthcare facility. This corresponds to 6 weeks of external study in addition to the formal training already received. In addition to community colleges, there are home study courses available both online and through the use of home study materials. A course that allows you ample access to the instructor for questions and assistance is essential. Likewise, access to fellow students allows opportunities for networking and support.

If you already know medical terminology and have good grammar skills, you are more than halfway there. Sometimes we recommend to these people to obtain practice tapes or CDs to measure their skill, and some are pleased to find that they are moving along just fine after a period of adjustment and heightened listening skills. Others find that they did not know as much terminology as they thought, and for them we recommend taking a course either at a community college or via home study.

Medical Transcriptionists must sometimes edit the words of the dictating physician and make corrections where appropriate. Courses in English grammar and punctuation, anatomy, physiology, terminology, and medical transcription are necessary. The AHDI recommends that the following course topics are included as part of your training: English grammar and punctuation, medical language, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, pharmacology and laboratory medicine, transcription technology, medical transcription practice, healthcare records, privacy, ethics, and other medicolegal issues

In addition, an effective course of study should be taught by qualified professionals, preferably Certified Medical Transcriptionists (CMTs) who are knowledgeable in their field. The ADHI recommends that at least 30 hours of real dictated physician reports be included in the formal training, plus an additional 10 hours of real dictated physician reports be included in the external practice module.

What about certification?

Watch out for schools that offer a "certificate". It should be clear that this is a certificate of completion of their course of study, NOT the designation "Certified Medical Transcriptionist". To learn more about Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) and Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) designation, click here.

Get references! Ask the course operators to provide you with contact information of graduated students, and follow through to see where they are today in terms of their medical transcription career. Ask them to provide you with a list of employers who have hired their graduates. This is part of your due diligence in preparing for your career in medical transcription. Contact as many schools and graduates as necessary so that you will be starting off your new career with the utmost confidence that you have made the right choice. We have heard many times from MT students who are already in a course of study who feel they should have spent more time checking out schools prior to making their choice, so don't let the excitement of entering a new field deter you from taking enough time to fully evaluate your options.

Lastly, but certainly not least, the medical transcription school that you choose should provide a job placement program. When you are contacting schools, ask them about their placement program and continued post-graduate assistance.

Are there accredited Medical Transcription Schools?

The Approval Committee for Certificate Programs (ACCP) is a joint committee that was established by The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and AHDI to approve medical transcription education programs. Ask if the school you're considering is ACCP-approved.

About the Author

Melinda Decker began her medical transcription career in 1987. In 1997 she purchased and launched the domain MedicalTranscription.com for her business. In 2001, illness forced Melinda to discontinue transcribing but once recovered, she relaunched the website to assist other transcriptionists in finding jobs. The website uses a database to match the abilities of the transcriptionists to the physicians and medical facilities that hire them. In addition, the website provides information for new transcriptionists and medical practice managers, as well the the discussion forum MT Brainstorm.

Is Wikipedia a Viable Source for College Papers? Author:

Is Wikipedia a Viable Source for College Papers?

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Ben Welch" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'ben-welch/24830">Ben Welch

As a college writing instructor, I can vouch that there are certain questions that come up again and again during the course of every writing class. Questions include:

When do I use "then" and when do I use "than"?
How do I write a good thesis statement?
Where do I put the page numbers?

Then there are more general questions, such as:

Do you always have to start class on time and end class on time?
Is there anyone else who teaches this course?
You're married. Really? You? (Often followed by a "That poor woman" muttered under their breath.)

But perhaps the most common question I get is whether Wikipedia, the ubiquitous online encyclopedia, can be used as a viable source for research papers. In response to this question, I try to explain how academic discourse works - I talk about accuracy, credibility, objectivity, peer-reviewing, and the like. Most of the time, students just stare at me blankly and say, "So... ah... is that a no?"

As such, I've been searching for a better response, one that I hope will finally put to rest this question, which has been lurking in the halls of academia and feeding on the unsuspecting brains of my students like a zombie from one of the old Simpson's Halloween Specials. At long last, I think I finally found the answer, which was provided by, of all people, the founder of Wikipedia.com, Jimmy Wales. To quote from The Chronicle of Higher Education:

Speaking at a conference at the University of Pennsylvania on Friday called "The Hyperlinked Society," Mr. Wales said that he gets about 10 e-mail messages a week from students who complain that Wikipedia has gotten them into academic hot water. "They say, 'Please help me. I got an F on my paper because I cited Wikipedia'" and the information turned out to be wrong, he says. But he said he has no sympathy for their plight, noting that he thinks to himself: "For God sake, you're in college; don't cite the encyclopedia."

Mr. Wales goes on to say that Wikipedia is good for getting a general overview for a subject but notes that academic papers should draw from real sources - you know, like the kind you find in the library.

There it is - straight from the horse's mouth - Wikipedia is not a viable source for college papers. Thus, I think it's finally time that students and educators accept the fact that serious academic discussions must be conducted in serious academic forums. Websites like Wikipedia simply cannot function as the means for conveying crucial information on scholarly topics.

There has never been a better time to pursue an online college degree, despite the turmoil in the economy and the job market. With an online degree program, you\'ll be able to maintain a full-time job and perhaps even raise a family, and still expand your educational acumen. Add the option of potentially obtaining a scholarship, and the possibilities are limitless. Here are a few tips to help you settle into great study habits as you work toward your degree.

1. Chances are that you\'ll have many different courses with homework for each of them, so investing in different-colored folders and notebooks is a good idea. Label each with the course\'s name and your own name, of course. The papers inside each folder should be placed neatly in chronological order to make current projects easier to locate.

2. Study at the same time every day, perhaps with a partner. Be careful not to lapse into conversation instead of focusing on your schoolwork. Keeping a \"vow of silence\" once you get started will help you to absorb the material more effectively.

3. Note-taking may seem like a small matter, but doing it effectively is critical as you study for your online degree. It is also a great skill to parlay into your \"real life\" after you obtain your degree, since it will mean you know how to break down any topic to its most basic elements so you can absorb it thoroughly.

4. Prudent study habits really take root while you are in the classroom, even if yours is a virtual one. If you don\'t understand the material, you have every right to ask questions of the instructor. Despite the fact that your course is not in-person, your professor is there to help you with your goal of securing an online college degree. This is a course that you\'ve paid for, so now is the time to ask the expert and get your money\'s worth.

5. One of the hardest things to do is to tell your friends you are busy studying, but your online college education must take precedence over such distractions right now. Tell them that you will catch up with them after you finish studying, and then stick to your guns. Your true friends will understand how important it is that you complete your degree, and should encourage you toward that goal.

Giving attention to how effectively you manage your study time can be key to getting what you want out of your education. Staying focused on your goals as you do your work can make it easier to avoid distractions. Creating study habits that work for you will be beneficial during your school years and in your life even after you earn your degree.

The medical industry is currently experiencing a huge hiring boom. There is a great need for qualified medical assistants. Hospitals and doctors’ offices are overcrowded and need additional medical personnel to help.

In the next few years, it will be even harder for hospitals and doctors to deal with the demand for health care services. This is because of the number of uninsured and older individuals. This segment of the population requires more medical care so there needs to be a substantial supply of doctors, medical assistants, and nurses to meet the need.

Courses Available in Fresno and Across California

There are great Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting courses in Fresno, California. Most courses cost between five hundred and one thousand dollars each depending on where you take your courses. People who want to take medical assisting courses can apply for financial aid to help with tuition and textbook expenses. The first step is to file a FAFSA which is a federal application for financial aid. This can be done online.

Most students can complete their medical assisting courses in less than two years. Working professionals can attend a CA college at night if they cannot attend classes during the day. Applicants only need a GED or a high school diploma in order to be accepted into any medical assisting program.

After Graduation Prospects

Completing medical assisting courses can be very beneficial to people who are looking for more employment opportunities. Some of these employment opportunities include the following: school health aide, medical assistant, clinical lab aide, billing clerk, medical office manager, and blood bank assistant.

Medical assistant students will learn some of the following concepts and skills from their classes: how to take vital signs, how to do blood draws, how to take blood pressure and pulse, assisting with office responsibilities, taking patient histories, interviewing patients about symptoms, medical charting, and assisting during medical examinations and surgeries.

Contact a California Medical Assisting School Today!

If you live in the Fresno, California area and want to help people while having a recession proof job then you should consider medical assisting courses. There are great schools in the Fresno area that cater to students who have hectic schedules but want a change of career.
Essential Tips On Finding The Best Online College Degree For You

Author: <a target="_blank" title="David Faulkner" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'david-faulkner/24354">David Faulkner

It is a fact that the demands of modern day life can place extreme stress on an individual. A high percentage of people are now trying to balance the demands of employment, family and education equally without actually neglecting one of those specific areas of their lives. When it comes to getting a college education, it can be hard to fit everything in to a 24-hour day. The vast majority of students have to work to fund their education and have external demands placed on them as well. As a result, it is of the utmost importance that you find a degree with a learning pattern that suits you. Online college degrees provide a solution for this problem. However, you still have to look at all of your options and choose the best online college degree for you. If you follow the tips below, then you will find the perfect course for you.

1)Evaluating distance-learning courses can be very confusing because no two courses will offer the same program pattern. The first thing that you must do in order to find the best online college degree for you is to decide what you want from your education. Is there a specific subject that will enhance your chances of employment? What subjects did you do well in at school? What subjects do you enjoy? Brainstorming the answers to these questions alone will help you to decide what degree you want to do so you can move on to evaluating distance learning courses.

2)Bearing in mind that you could choose an online college degree from anywhere in the world because you don't actually have to leave your home, find out about online schools and what they have to offer. Make sure that any courses you consider are accredited so that employers will recognize them. Never commit to anything until you have learnt about online schools.

3)Investigate the rules associated with the various online college degrees to ensure that they meet your needs. For example, you may want a part time course so you can remain in employment, or you may want a program that remains ongoing even if you cannot complete any classes in a certain semester. Evaluating distance-learning courses effectively is all about working out what you can put into it and whether the institution will actually understand and meet your needs.

4)Look at the course content. If you hate one method of learning then it is unlikely that you will motivate yourself to continue your education at home if your online college degree heavily features that method. This is essential research about online schools because you cannot change your mind once you are committed.

5)Lastly, when evaluating distance-learning courses, take the level of the course and amount of time required per week into account. If it is an advanced course and you are a beginner then the combination is not going to work. Similarly, if you can only afford to spend 5 hours a week on an assignment that needs over 10 hours then the course is not for you.

When choosing an online college degree, the most important thing to consider is your lifestyle. You have to choose something that works for you. By setting out your expectations in advance and looking for a course to fit the bill, you are more likely to find something to suit you than if you just browse and impulsively choose an online college degree that may work out to be completely wrong for you in the long term. Choose wisely for the best results!

Online Learning in Washington DC Make Learning More Accessible

Online Schools offer a New Way to Impart Knowledge

Earning an online college degree has become a popular path for working adults in Washington DC, largely because it is extremely flexible in nature. Unlike traditional courses where attending classes or lectures are a burden, online degree courses are more flexible. This is because these courses were designed specifically to alleviate the problems of those people who can’t afford to pursue regular courses. So it doesn't matter if time restraints or geographical restraints are keeping you from attending a traditional Washington DC college, because online colleges help you overcome these obstacles. Individuals with hectic work schedule or a busy family life can now realize their ambition of pursing higher studies, since they will not be limited by the schedules of traditional colleges. This focus on convenience is what popularized the concept of online education.

Achievements and Advantages of Online Educations

The very concept of online education has inspired many people who have hitherto become disillusioned with adult education Washington DC because of the strict schedules associated with it. This is certainly one of the biggest achievements of online education. However, just providing a degree to students is not the objective these programs. Rather, their aim is helping students get quality education regardless of their location or schedule. Some other prominent advantages of online college degrees are described below:

Geographical location will not be a barrier any more. No matter where you live, if you have a PC with an internet connection, you can earn an online college degree.
Finding a class time that works will no longer be a problem. Online college degree courses are designed in such a way that a student can take lessons whenever he or she wants to. In many cases, lessons are converted into video so that students can view them at their convenience.
You can earn an online degree in the comfort of your own home. This is particularly good for those who do not like to rush to a college after work. You can cook dinner, help the kids with their homework, and when you have time, participate in an online lesson.

These benefits make attending an online college especially appealing. Contact a Washington DC online school today and start working towards your new career!

So, you really want to SPEAK English? Get all speechless and bashful when trying to make friends? Face your fears! Staying with a host family could be uncomfortable, uncomfortable at times, but it is an incredibly enriching experience, a one of a kind opportunity to learn about the American way of life and also a great way to improve communication skills.

At school, you learned how to ask, how to respond, what to say, when to say it, how to say it. You name it! You learned it in your English course in USA! But communicating with your instructor is one thing; things out in the street are a bit different. The best way to learn how words and expressions are used in real social settings is to get out and mingle! Find out what people your age generally do for fun, where they go, and organize outings with your fellow classmates. You could meet really cool people, and even forge long-lasting friendships.

If just the thought of initiating a conversation with a total stranger makes you weak at the knees, find activities that will give you the perfect chance to talk to people. Think of the interesting people you could meet while learning to ski, or during a hike. Any sport or outdoor activity provides the perfect chance to engage in lively conversation, plus the added bonus of keeping you fit.

Or take another course. Dance lessons, arts and crafts, art courses, business courses - you´ll have a many different ones to choose from- and yet again ANOTHER incredible opportunity to communicate and share. If you happen to have a special interest, for example animal rights, take a trip to the local animal shelter, or wildlife preserve, and with the volunteers.

So, when the bell rings and school´s out for the day, fight the urge to go home, stay in, and call it a day. Put what you´ve learned in in class to good use. Don´t be bashful. And don´t worry about what they´ll think of your fluency. Chances are they´ll just be glad to have met you.
