What types of jobs can I get with an associates degree in Computer Information Systems?
I’ve had odd jobs here and there, but I would really like a job that takes advantage of my education. It has been hard because I don’t have any experience working in this job field.
What kind of job can I get with a 2 year Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems or Computer Science?
I am 24 years old and have decided it would be in my best interest to go back to school. I just want to have a good stable job. I am really good with Computers and have decided on an Associates in Computer Information Systems. I dont want to transfer and do 4 years. Just a 2 year. I currently make $9/hr working with a Travel Agency and i HATE it but I stick with it because Its a job and its $400/week which in todays economy isnt a bad deal.
My question is will I make much more then $9/hr with a 2 year degree and what kind of job would I be looking at? I currently live in a town of 60,000 people but plan on moving to a city of 500,000 people.
Any answers i will take into consideration. I just dont want to waste my time if its going to be for no reason. Ive heard it all. That I will make $10/hr and that I will make $60,000/yr with a 2 year IT degree.
What types of jobs can I be looking for if I have an associates degree in Computer Information Systems?
I’m having trouble getting my foot in the door because I don’t have any work experience. Where is a good place to start?
It’s really hard to say. It’s like telling me you’re a baseball player in the US – you could be making anywhere from $10,000 a year to $25,000,000/year.
There’s a lot of luck involved in getting your first job – beit a 2 year degree or a 4 year degree. It also varies based on your region – some have a lot more jobs than other years.
And you also don’t say what you want to do with your degree – network admin or coding or other.
Having said all that, your odds are fairly good that you’ll make more than $10/hour with a 2 year IT degree. I’ve always felt, and seen evidence in my professional career that your education gets you your first, maybe second job. After that, it’s all about your experience, and what you’ve done. If you want to increase your odds, get as much work experience while at school as possible. Work on the side, even if it’s for peanuts – it will pay off later. Take 10 students out of school, and assume they have roughly the same marks – the one with the most work experience has a big advantage …
Tech support and IT help desk roles are usually where those with CIS diplomas get their foot in the door.
How much can I expect to make with an Associates degree in Computer Information Systems?
I just graduated in May 2010 and the emphasis is in Networking, however I don’t have any on the job experience. How much can I expect to make with this degree in an entry level position?
I already have a bachelors degree, but it is in Sociology
it would behoove you to stay in school and get your BS, at the very least…. this is the perfect time to be in school… there are not very many jobs in IT right now… but everything goes in cycles, so wait a couple years and the market should be better than it is right now.
