Welcome to Back 2 School Moms. This site is dedicated to all adult (non-traditional) students who juggle classes, family and jobs; but we also present information that is valuable for students of all ages.
Back 2 School Moms offers financial aid and scholarship information, money-saving tips on student essentials such as textbooks and more. We know how tough it is to cope with the demands of going back to school as adults, because we’ve done it ourselves.
We know that you’ll feel guilty and pulled a million different ways trying to finish assignments when little Billy is whining because he wants you to take him to the park. You’ll want to faint when you see the price of textbooks, and you’ll wonder how in the world you’re ever going to scrape up enough money for tuition.
You don’t know how you’re ever going to get your assignments finished when the boss suddenly asks you to work a bunch of extra hours. You’ll want to cry when you figure out that your microbiology and chemistry final is on the same day and they both require massive amounts of study to get even a mediocre grade.
We know that you haven’t written an essay since back in the day and don’t even know where to start. Not to even mention that you’re quaking in your boots at the prospect of sitting in a classroom with kids not much older than your own. And how do you know if an employer will accept an online degree or not?
That’s why we’re here. It can be really lonely as an adult student, and Back 2 School Moms is here to help. Please leave your comments and questions on our posts so we can know where you need more information about a topic, or e-mail us directly at: norma@back2schoolmoms.com, or agreeno@back2schoolmoms.com.
Once again, welcome, and realize that you’re not alone.

Thank you for sharing this, having a support system when you’re returning to college is vital for survival!
I’ve worked with many mom’s returning to college and those that could find a support system, or already had one in place had much less stress than those who didn’t. Don’t get me wrong if you have no support, say from family or etc. success is possible but it’s a bit harder.
This is why having a site like this is soooo very important.
Keep coming back to see more support and advice to make your life easier as you’re in college.

Going to school and having a higher education is important to any person, but especially so for single moms or even moms that wants to get ahead. Not only is having a higher education important for self advancement, but it also helps with kids homework and keeps moms on top of what schools are learning and how they can help their own kids in school. By going through the experiences that their kids are doing in school, they can better equip themselves with tools that will establish them as a good role model for their kids learning environment and make sure that they are able to help. I’ve seen moms that are not able to help their own kids at their school work and this can be a problem for families and moms as their kids need direction at home but if the material is to tough for the mom to help with then the kids suffer.
My girlfriend of 2 years ended our relationship yesterday because she said she could not get past her judgements of me as a mom… she thinks I’m a bad mom because I went back to school, commute, and have to spend a few days away from home and my son. So, today I’m crushed, hurt, angry, and of course guilt laden. The one person who I counted on for support the most is the one who I could actually count on the least…
Daphne,
I’m sorry to hear that. But you should not feel bad about trying to create a better life for yourself and your children. Unfortunately, the lack of support for parents going back to school is all too common. Maybe deep down your girlfriend felt threatened that you would leave her behind after completing your education. She may be using this fear as an excuse to call your parenting into question in order to break off your relationship. I think that there is more to it than just “thinking that you’re a bad mom.”
Congratulate yourself on your courage in taking steps to complete your education. Don’t look back; you will never regret having that diploma in your hand.

Hi
I am thinking of going back to school for my masters and I am scared. I would like some advice from anyone on which one to take the GRE or the MAT. Which one is better to take. I have not been in school for almost 14 yrs. so I am looking for someone that can help me through the process.
Thanks,
Maria
Hi Maria,
It all depends on what type of grad school you are planning on attending. Most schools of Education and counseling will take the MAT; other disciplines will accept only the GRE. Your best bet is to visit the admissions department of your prospective university and find out what the specific requirements for pre-graduate admission testing for your discipline are.
